Threads for an A list turn up…

I WAS just thinking to myself the other day. If Cassper Nyovest or say Burna Boy were to invite me to an exclusive party – what would I wear? What would be good enough to wear to a celebrity party, I thought.
These dreamy ideas came to mind after I had told a friend I miss South Africa and the next time I visit the country need to go to Taboo Night Club in Sandton, Johannesburg.
I’d missed an opportunity to go there the last time I was in Sandton and would not miss it for anything the next time I’m in South Africa.
Without soliciting for information, my friend started telling me about how exclusive Taboo is and how much of a celebrity bar it is.
“This is where celebrities do their thing”, he kept saying.
My friend sold me a dream I can’t wait to fulfill!
But even as he was talking, I kept asking myself – what would I wear to Taboo? It’s the same as going to Cassper Nyovest or Burna Boy’s party, right?
There would be other celebrities and important people there. I’d need to fit in and not look like I just got out of some dingy alley.
Could it be the same as going to Pabloz VIP in Harare, I wondered.
My mind kept racing over this fantasy. Crazy, I know!
So these thoughts were at the back of my mind for a couple more days until I saw this girl in a hot black number on Instagram.
I got my “aha” moment. It’s actually not that complicated dressing for an A list event.
Simply pull out the trusted and timeless little black dress!
Just a dress? Of course not! The secret lies in the accessories.
Just go crazy. Wear an elaborate neck piece, a good pair of earrings, a time piece – preferably a big face watch – they’re in right now – and a killer pair of high heels.
The higher the heels the better! You obviously need to make sure you can walk in the pair of heels you choose otherwise you’ll be walking like a new born calf.
We certainly wouldn’t want that – it’ll shatter your confidence and ruin your entire evening.
Once that’s sorted out, next thing to worry about is your hair and make-up. Do an elaborate eyebrow and a defined eye. I’d even go for a smoky eye – just this once.
For the lips – red lipstick will be perfect. It goes with nearly everything and will blend in with whatever skin tone.
I’d let my hair down – something about a woman in a little black dress and flowing hair.
But don’t be under pressure to get an all new hairstyle unless you absolutely need to.
You could wear your hair or braids in a bun and look equally good. This look will, in my opinion, be more elegant than sexy.
If you’re more adventurous and your whites are white enough, all white could be an option for you. Maintain the hair and make-up but mix it up a little bit with the shoes.
Go for something bright – something that will pop and demand attention. It could be gold, hot pink or animal print – anything that will tickle your fancy.
Your all white outfit could be a dress, destroyed denims and a flattering blouse or a pair of shorts and a low neckline shirt. No flat shoes or T-shirts please ladies!
Embrace your femininity the best way you can.
It’s only January and we just got out of the festive season, you might be thinking. You probably don’t even have a dollar in your wallet! That’s okay; preparation time is never wasted time. When the time comes, you’ll know exactly what to do and make sure you turn up!
